Transportation Federal Credit Union Announces 2024 Miriam Lieb Memorial Scholarship Recipients

Alexandria, VA (May 22, 204) – Transportation Federal Credit Union (Transportation FCU) has selected Elyse Chess, Evan Chess, Laniyah Duncan, Brooke Jackson, and Mateo Traini as the 2024 Miriam Lieb Memorial Scholarship winners.

Throughout her 34-year career as President/CEO of Transportation FCU, Miriam Lieb dedicated herself to furthering the credit union movement. She was also a mentor, helping encourage and cultivate the talents of many other credit union leaders earlier in their careers. The Miriam Lieb Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Transportation FCU members who are passionate about making a difference. This year they awarded (5) $1,000 scholarships to this year’s 2024 recipients. Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, community involvement, and a 600-800 word essay outlining how the applicant would benefit from the scholarship.

Recipient, Elyse Chess, is an engineering major at the University of Pittsburgh and is heavily involved in STEM extracurricular activities at her school. Recipient Evan Chess is an engineering major at the University of Pittsburgh and is heavily involved in his community. Recipient Laniyah Duncan is a history major at St. Mary’s College who dreams of creating a platform in her community for youth to learn more about history. Recipient Brooke Jackson, is a future student at Fayetteville State University with a passion for nursing. Recipient Mateo Traini is a future college student who took a gap year after high school and will utilize the scholarship to pursue his love for music.
