Adding Another Layer of Security to Your Membership

Starting January 1, 2025, we’re adding an extra layer of security to your online and mobile banking experience. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be enabled for all accounts to ensure your information stays safe and protected.

What is MFA?

MFA is a security process that requires two or more methods to verify your identity when you log in.

When logging in, you’ll provide:

  • Something you know – your username and password
  • Something you have – A one-time code sent to your mobile device or email

Why is MFA Imporant?

Here are some reasons why MFA is important to activate for your online and mobile banking experience:

  • Enhanced Security: Adds an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access
  • Peace of Mind: Keeps your personal and financial data secure
  • Quick and Easy: A seamless way to protect your accounts with minimal effort

How To Get Started:

To activate MFA, you must contact a Member Service Representative at 202.366.9400 or 877.469.8328. Please be sure to have the most accurate and up-to-date email address and phone number on file with us. The Member Service Representative will activate MFA for your account to confirm your identity.

To ensure MFA has been activated, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Online or Mobile Banking
  2. Select a contact method to receive the one-time verification code. This code can only be used once. Ensure that the phone number selected is not a landline phone number.
  3. Look for the code in your text message inbox.
  4. Enter the verification code on the screen. After entering the code successfully, the main menu with your TFCU accounts will appear.

Q: Do I need to do anything now?
No. Starting January 1, 2025, you’ll be prompted to set up MFA during your first login.

Q: What if I do not have my phone with me?
You can use an alternate verification method like email to receive your code.

Q: How will this impact my accounts?
When you log into Online Banking to fulfill certain actions, you’ll be asked to authenticate your identity with a one-time code that you can select to receive by text or email. To ensure access to your accounts, make sure your account information is up-to-date including the phone number or email address you use most often.

Q: How do I receive the one-time verification code?
When you attempt certain actions in Online Banking, you will be prompted to enter a verification code.

From the menu presented to you, choose an email address or phone number to receive your one-time code. We’ll text or email you the code at either the phone number or email address on file with us. Then, look for the code on your phone or in your inbox. Finally, enter the code in the security window.
